Bad weather can increase likelihood of pedestrian accidents

Any pedestrian crossing a city street should be keenly aware of his or her surroundings. However, vehicles on the roads and streets of New York have a responsibility to look out for pedestrians also. During times of inclement weather, pedestrian accidents may be more likely to happen. A pedestrian accident recently took the life of a man on the streets of New York on a Sunday morning.

The accident happened as a 49-year-old man was crossing the street. Two cars hit him as he did so. The man was rushed to a hospital for treatment of the injuries he sustained. Despite transport for medical care, the man died from his injuries.

One of the drivers stayed at the scene. However, the other driver who hit the man fled the scene of the accident. Police were actively searching for that driver. The accident occurred as it poured rain outside and police were also working to determine if weather played a role in the accident.

When police investigate pedestrian accidents and a driver involved has fled, it may be unclear whether or not that driver is culpable in any way. If the driver who fled this New York pedestrian accident is found to be culpable or was acting in a negligent manner, that person may be held legally liable or partially liable for the death of the pedestrian. The family left behind may have cause to file a wrongful death suit once the circumstances are fully known, and this legal option can result in monetary damages, which may prove helpful as the family copes with the loss they have suffered.
