New York residents might be interested in this story of a fatal accident involving an MTA bus and a 21-year-old pedestrian in Williamsburg. On Mar. 1, a nursing student at Hunter College walked southbound on Union Avenue with a group of friends. As they crossed the street, an MTA bus was turning left onto Meeker Ave. and allegedly hit and killed the woman, according to the local police.

The woman’s cousin, who was with her at the time of the accident, stated that they were crossing on a green light and there was very little traffic on the street at the time. He said that the bus seemed to come from out of nowhere, and his cousin was hit in the left leg by the front of the bus. A friend who was with them started screaming at the bus driver to stop, but she appeared to be unable to hear the screams. The nursing student was then pulled under the bus by its wheels, according to the cousin’s account of the fatal accident.

Passengers on the bus allegedly pointed out the accident to the 50-year-old bus driver, and she stopped the bus. The deceased woman’s cousin reported that the passengers were then moved to another MTA bus, which arrived prior to the arrival of rescue workers. No information could be obtained from the NYPD regarding the ongoing investigation as to whether the passengers on the bus had undergone off-site questioning.

In this case, the deceased nursing student is survived by her mother, father, 15-year-old sister, and 17-year-old brother. A personal injury attorney may be able to help her family to cope with the loss of their loved one by filing a wrongful death lawsuit against MTA to pursue compensation for final expenses.
