Man strikes, kills friend with vehicle in New York

On Behalf of | Aug 1, 2014 | Pedestrian Accidents

A man and his female friend were reportedly riding along in his SUV — a Jeep Liberty produced back in 2006 — when she asked him to pull the car over so that she could get out. She thought that he was intoxicated, and she was concerned about riding with him in that state. She then began to walk down the side of the road instead.

The man wanted to talk to her, though, and he followed her in his SUV. He tried to pull up next to her in order to have the conversation, but he accidentally hit her with the Jeep. She suffered from a serious head injury and later died as a result.

The young man got out of his car after he struck his friend and called the emergency services. When police got to the accident scene, he was trying to help her in any way that he could.

The woman who was struck was 21 years old at the time of her death. The man who was behind the wheel is 23.

The accident happened right around four a.m., and it was out on Nesconset Highway. Police have now charged the man in the case, and he is facing DWI charges. He was held for the night in the Sixth Precinct.

No matter who is involved in fatal pedestrian accidents, even if the two were friends before the accident took place, the family of anyone who has passed away may want to look into their legal options, as they could be entitled to compensation for their loss. They could also look into compensation if there are mounting medical bills that were accumulated before the person’s passing.
