A passenger in a car quite literally puts his or her life in the hands of the person operating the vehicle. When the driver fails to take proper precautions or otherwise abide by the rules of the road, serious injuries -- or worse -- may be the end result. A car accident in upstate New York recently led to serious injuries for a passenger and a citation for the driver who caused the crash.
The Columbia County accident occurred at an intersection. A 20-year-old driver was eastbound when her vehicle crossed the path of a pickup truck. Her Subaru was hit on the passenger side and landed on its roof.
A passenger in her vehicle was seriously injured and transported to an area medical center. There were also injured victims in the pickup truck. Two people in that vehicle needed medical attention but were able to leave the hospital later after treatment. The driver of the Subaru was cited by police for failure to yield.
The passenger who was seriously injured in the car accident may incur mounting medical bills and possibly expenses related to ongoing treatment and/or rehabilitation. That passenger may benefit from learning more about pursuing a personal injury case in a New York civil court. When a driver has acted negligently and innocent victims are injured as a result, a successful personal injury case may help those injured parties get the compensation they need to pay for treatment and make up for lost wages from any missed time from work while recovering.
