Walking along the streets of an urban area can be a dangerous endeavor for anyone regardless of the time of day. When someone is crossing a New York street with a child in tow, the danger or risk of injury may naturally be elevated. A man recently hit a woman who was walking with a child and then he fled after the car accident.
The accident occurred on a Sunday afternoon. The woman was crossing a street in Queens with the child when a Mustang came along and hit her. Reports indicate the woman was able to push the child out of the way before the impact. The ages of the woman and child were not reported.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries. She was listed to be critically injured, although no specific details of her injuries were released. The 23-year-old driver left the scene, but was caught roughly a mile away. He now faces a few criminal charges, including leaving the scene of the accident and aggravated unlicensed operation of a car.
While the man faces criminal charges for his actions which caused injuries, the woman injured in this car accident may have grounds to pursue civil action against the man. A personal injury suit in a New York civil court can help that injured woman garner monetary damages. If successful, the monetary damages she receives can be used towards the costs of medical care, any on-going treatment or for financial help because of lost wages.
