Pedestrian accidents can be fatal in New York

On Behalf of | Jan 5, 2016 | Pedestrian Accidents

The act of walking along the city sidewalk should be a generally safe activity and way to get around. But, simply walking on the sidewalks can lead to pedestrian accidents. Often in New York, those pedestrian accidents can be fatal, unfortunately. One such fatal accident recently occurred and a young woman lost her life.

The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. as a 22-year-old Korean woman was walking on the sidewalk. A cab started to roll away while the driver was outside of the taxi helping a passenger out of the vehicle. The cab rolled along the road and hit the woman.

Also, the taxi cab hit a 21-year-old man in addition to the woman. The cab stopped as it crashed into another taxi which was nearby. The 22-year-old woman and the other person hit were both transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries; however, the woman died at the hospital.

When pedestrian accidents occur and take the life of a victim, the family left behind may have to deal with more than just the emotional trauma of the unexpected loss of a loved one. That family may also have to deal with medical bills, funeral costs and other expenses related to the loss of their loved one. If negligence is proved, New York families in this difficult position may want to consider the option of a wrongful death suit as this action may help the family deal with the financial losses incurred as they move forward after their tragic loss.
