Speed and intoxication leads to guilty plea in car accident

A recent car accident has led to a guilty plea by one driver and the death of another. The high speed car accident happened months ago on a New York residential street. The ensuing head-on collision cost a 72-year-old woman her life.

The 26-year-old driver was driving a pickup truck in a 30 mile per hour zone. She was going 72 miles per hour at the time of the accident. According to prosecutors in the criminal case, she was under the influence of a chemical called difloroethane, which she inhaled from a can of Endust cleaner.

The driver crossed the lane and hit the woman’s vehicle head-on. The 26-year-old driver has since pleaded guilty to a charge of criminally negligent homicide. There was no word yet as to the specific criminal consequences she may face as a result of the guilty plea.

The criminal charges leveled on this woman and the guilty plea in court may give the family of the victim some solace as they try to move forward from this tragic car accident. New York families in a similar situation may be able to pursue a wrongful death suit against a person who acted recklessly or illegally, leading to the death of a loved one. In addition to the emotional devastation, a family may have to deal with financial devastation as a result of losing a loved one in a crash. A wrongful death suit may be an appropriate and necessary legal option for families who are left behind to secure compensation to help with the sudden loss they are experiencing.
