It’s hard to believe that the unofficial end of summer is only a week away, yet Labor Day 2018 is looming on the horizon. While many New Yorkers’ holiday plans have already been made, still others may be wondering what to do next weekend.

Below are some suggestions for Labor Day celebrations and activities here in New York City.

Hit the water

Whether it’s your own sailboat or a chartered yacht, there’s still time to head out on the water. Later, after the sun and wind whip up an appetite, stop by the docked schooner, Grand Banks, in Tribeca for some fresh, raw oysters.

If lobster is your preference, the North River Lobster Company offers free mini cruises and a full menu at its Pier 81 location.

Visit an outdoor beer garden

You don’t have to wait until October to enjoy a little slice of Munich. There are numerous al fresco beer gardens right in Manhattan where you can nosh on brats and sip some suds while enjoying socializing with old and new friends.

Get a little culture

Broadway Week ticket promotion begins on Labor Day with incredible two-for-one tickets to some of the Big Apple’s hottest shows. You can also go to Lincoln Center Plaza and enjoy the free Summer HD Festival sponsored by the Metropolitan Opera. Check out some screenings of opera productions at 8 p.m.

Got art?

Washington Square Park has got your art fix. The biannual Outdoor Art Exhibit allows New York City artists to show their wares to the public over Labor Day weekend. Stop by and pick up a piece that calls to you.

Celebrate Caribbean culture

Brooklyn’s Caribbean Carnival Parade has plenty of costumed dancers and calypso and reggae music to make you move your feet. The festival begins at 11 a.m. at Eastern Parkway on Labor Day and ends at 6 p.m.

With all these activities, it’s a given that some drivers will be intoxicated. Be very careful if you are on foot or bicycling to any of these activities. If you wind up injured after being struck by a drunk driver, you may need to file a claim for damages in order to get compensation.
