Were you struck by a car while walking in New York City?

New York City may be in for a January heat wave, but that is a rarity indeed. Soon, we will be back to weather business as usual, with Arctic fronts sweeping down from Canada and snow blanketing the city.

The fact is that winter driving in New York City can be quite hazardous. And it’s not just motorists who face enhanced risks during inclement weather conditions. Pedestrians, too, are at risk, as icy roads can cause vehicles to slide right off the road and onto sidewalks and into bus stops, injuring the hapless pedestrians in their way.

When a car crashes into a pedestrian, even if it is moving at a low rate of speed, it’s the pedestrian who bears the brunt of the injuries and damages from the accident. The sheer weight and size of the vehicles far outmatches any individual, no matter what their size.

These injuries they suffer can be life-threatening and permanent. The injured pedestrian may never again be able to walk. They might not be able to return to their jobs or even be capable of gainful employment at all.

In short, auto-pedestrian accidents are often life-altering events — and not in a good way. If you get struck by a vehicle this winter in New York City, your recovery can be long and grueling, as well as very costly. Your medical bills alone can rise to the high six figures and even beyond, when you calculate future costs.

What can you do after an unfortunate event like this? The first thing to do is tend to your own health and recovery. While you are recuperating, we can hold the errant driver legally liable for all of your injuries, losses and damages.
