A crane operator working on a job in Long Island sustained unspecified cranial injuries after his crane fell over on Dec. 18. According to reports, the construction accident didn’t injure anyone else even though it occurred at around 12:15 p.m. on a Wednesday.
Nearby streets were blocked off close to the time of the accident near the intersection of Mineola Avenue and First Street, although it’s uncertain whether this was done in response to the construction site incident or as an earlier precaution. Although a spokesperson from Winthrop University Hospital claimed that the man only sustained a slight bruise in the collapse, it remains unknown whether his injuries might result in future complications. After the accident, the crane’s cab stopped falling and settled against the build site, a new hospital research center.
According to reports, Bay Crane officials were working with the fire department to determine what initially caused the crane to fall over. The device was in the middle of being taken to a new location on site when it tipped, and it remains unclear whether the operator’s actions had anything to do with the events. It’s also uncertain if OSHA will initiate an incident investigation or if the authorities will bring criminal charges against the company or the operator.
