9-year-old girl dead, 5 others injured in New York car accident

A 62-year-old man is facing criminal charges after he fled from a minor accident that he caused and proceeded to plow into two more cars. The second accident happened in Brooklyn and resulted in a fatality. Five people were injured, and a 9-year-old girl was killed in the car accident.

The crash happened on May 4, just after the driver of a minivan was involved in an earlier accident. The man continued on without stopping. Police tried to pull over the man, but he sped away. That was when he headed south on Remsen Avenue and hit a sedan and van.

Five occupants from the two crashed vehicles were taken to local hospitals to be treated for their injuries. Their conditions are stable. A 9-year-old girl was not so fortunate. She was pinned inside the Hyundai sedan and had to be extricated by emergency crews. She later died at Brookdale Hospital. The man fled from that accident scene as well, but was later found by police and arrested.

Some of us make minor mistakes when driving, but in this case, the man was acting in a purely reckless manner. It is unknown what caused the man to drive in such a manner, but there could be many factors involved, including distractions, intoxication and speed.

The man’s negligence caused serious injuries and death. He could now face not only criminal charges but civil cases as well. The victims and their families could sue for personal injury or wrongful death and for compensation for damages, including pain and suffering, medical bills, funeral expenses and lost wages.
