Several injured in NYC crash on the FDR

On Behalf of | Nov 19, 2014 | Car Accidents

On Thursday, Nov. 13, around 4 a.m., a Kia Sedan headed the wrong way down Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive and hit two other vehicles head-on. The Kia was driven by a 33-year-old woman. She and her 28-year-old passenger were taken to Bellevue Hospital with serious injuries. Two other people were injured in the crash as well.

The Kia driver entered the FDR at the East 34th Street ramp heading south in the northbound lane. A police officer saw the vehicle and followed it for a short way but was unable to stop the car before the crash occurred.

It is unknown whether there were drugs or alcohol involved in the crash. No arrests have been made. The FDR was closed for several hours, and traffic was backed up beyond the Williamsburg Bridge. The FDR was reopened by 7 a.m.

In a situation where the driver in an automobile collision is thought to be negligent, it may be advisable to consider filing a personal injury law suit. Personal injury claims are filed in the Civil Court independent of any criminal charges or convictions. A suit for personal injury is intended to compensate the victims for both financial and emotion losses. The court may consider any income lost due to the accident, the long-term effects that the accident may cause, such as a disability, medical expenses and the pain and suffering of the victims. Consulting an attorney who is familiar with personal injury in motor vehicle accidents may be a good source of guidance and support. An attorney may be able to advise the best course of action with regard to a specific set of circumstances.
