Car accident on New York street takes life of motorcyclist

Sudden lane changes or unexpected maneuvers while driving can lead to car accidents for unsuspecting motorists. When one driver recently tried to make a U-turn on a New York street in the Bronx, his car hit a motorcycle traveling in the same direction. The tragic car accident took the life of the motorcyclist.

The accident occurred just after noon on a Sunday. Both vehicles involved were traveling west. The car driver, a 23-year-old, tried to turn and crossed in front of the bike, causing a collision between the two vehicles.

First responders transported the motorcyclist to a medical facility. Despite emergency help, the motorcyclist died as a result of the crash. The car driver also needed medical attention, reportedly for back pain. It was not yet known whether the driver will face any criminal charges or be ticketed for his role in the car accident.

If the driver is convicted of a crime or traffic infraction related to the car accident, that could further help any civil suit initiated against that driver, if the family of the motorcyclist wishes to pursue a monetary claim. In cases such as this in New York, families left behind can pursue a wrongful death suit against a motorist whose alleged negligence directly caused or contributed to the death of a loved one. A successfully presented claim may result in a monetary judgment to help family members contend with the loss and financial strain a loved one’s death may have caused, such as funeral costs, lost income and other financial losses recognized by New York personal injury laws.
