New York cracks down on distracted drivers

New York State is getting tough on drivers that use cell phones or text while operating their vehicles. During a summer crackdown, officers issued more than 21,500 tickets this year, as opposed to about 5,000 citations last year. Now drivers in New York who talk on cell phones or text are subject to fines of $150.

New York woman killed in hit-and-run crash

According to investigators, a woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Queens on the night of Sept. 13. At approximately 7 p.m., the woman was walking near the intersection of 117th Street and 97th Avenue in Richmond Hill. She was walking among some parked cars when she was hit by a grey Toyota Camry that had been traveling north on 117th Street.

3 pedestrians left with serious injuries in New York accident

A recent accident in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn ended with injuries to both those in the cars involved and pedestrians. Overall, authorities reported that seven people were injured in the pedestrian accident.

New York car accident kills one, injures two others

A crash in Brookhaven took the life of one person and sent two more to the hospital. According to the police report, the accident occurred on Aug. 31 a little before 4 p.m. close to the intersection of Montauk Highway and Horseblock Road.
