Kings County officials recently reported that two men in New York will face multiple charges for their roles in an alleged DUI accident in August that claimed the life of a 32-year-old woman. Officials said that both of the men were intoxicated at the time of the incident.
The car accident reportedly occurred at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood. According to a police report, a vehicle attempting to turn left onto Troy Avenue struck an eastbound car. Police say that the westbound vehicle was traveling at approximately 90 mph at the time of the collision. A 32-year-old woman who was a backseat passenger in the eastbound car was critically injured in the crash. According to authorities, she ultimately succumbed to her injuries while being rushed to a nearby medical facility by paramedics. A second passenger in the car suffered bruises and burns, reportedly.
Police claim that the driver of the eastbound car refused to submit to a breath test at the scene, but a sample of his blood was collected after police obtained a warrant. His blood alcohol content level at the time of the accident registered as high as .20 percent, allegedly. The driver of the westbound vehicle was tested for impairment and found to have a blood alcohol content level of .08 percent, purportedly.
Prosecutors filed a 26-count indictment against the two men on Oct. 29. Both men face second-degree manslaughter charges, which carry a possible 15-year prison sentence.
