Victim undergoes partial leg amputation after pedestrian accident

On Behalf of | Mar 17, 2015 | Pedestrian Accidents

A serious accident recently occurred in Binghamton, and the driver is now facing criminal charges. The 22-year-old ran into a pedestrian, causing the 20-year-old pedestrian to suffer a severe injury to her leg. The driver is now facing a New York DWI charge, and it is unclear if she will be facing additional charges following the pedestrian accident.

Shortly after 10 p.m., local police officers received a call concerning a pedestrian accident in which someone suffered an injury. The accident occurred on a bridge, but it was unclear if the pedestrian had attempted to cross the street or if she was just walking along the side of the bridge. Regardless, the driver of the vehicle ran into the pedestrian, pinning her between the vehicle and the stone rail of the bridge.

The pedestrian had to be transported to an area hospital for treatment of her severe leg injury. The specific details were not publicly disclosed since the woman did not want her identity to be released, but the injury was so severe that part of her leg had to be amputated. The driver has been charged with DWI, but she may face additional charges as the investigation continues.

Since the woman’s leg injury as a result of the pedestrian accident was so severe, she will likely incur steep medical bills — not only for the amputation and treatment of her injury but also for rehabilitation and follow up appointments afterward. If the woman chooses to do so, she could file a New York personal injury suit. She could attempt to be reimbursed for the aforementioned damages as well as any other related damages that she experienced, based upon proof of driver negligence.
