A recent distracted driver study pertaining to New York, as well as the rest of the country, shows that distracted driving, largely from cellphone usage, accounts for 58 percent of accidents in which teenage drivers are involved.

Teen killed by drunk driver in New York

On Jan. 18, a drunk driver killed a 19-year-old man and injured the teen's 18-year-old girlfriend. The couple was struck while they were leaving the parking lot of a shopping and entertainment complex in Syracuse after a date at a restaurant there. Following the fatal car accident, the 38-year-old man who hit the couple received a slew of criminal charges including driving while intoxicated, first-degree vehicular manslaughter and first-degree vehicular assault.

Some causes and effects of whiplash

Whiplash is one of the most common forms of injury that can result from a car accident in New York. Someone may suffer a whiplash injury whenever they're subjected to some kind of violent jolt, and it's important to bear in mind that such injuries can potentially happen even at relatively low speeds.

New York collision that killed 1 was caused by drunk driving

According to authorities, a 27-year-old woman died at Jacobi Hospital after being rear-ended on Jan. 1. The collision occurred when the driver of a Dodge Charger struck a Mercury Marquis livery cab around 8:15 a.m.; the woman was sitting in the back seat of the Mercury at the time of impact. The incident took place at the Cross Bronx Expressway and Rosendale Avenue intersection when the cab was stopped at a red light. The 54-year-old driver of the Mercury was transported to Einstein Hospital and reported to be considered stable.

Driver involved in fatal car accident charged with DWI

Authorities reportedly charged a driver involved in a fatal head-on crash in Greenport on Dec. 6 with driving while intoxicated. The 71-year-old man was driving the wrong way on Route 25 when he collided with an oncoming vehicle, according to police.
